As I sit in the quiet, darkness, drinking coffee, my mind is not quiet. Its screaming of lists, duties, obligations. I know Im not alone. We all struggle this time of year with attempting to create this perfect holiday. In this attempt, we have to include the lives of our children with us, children that cant be, in-laws, out-laws, exs, siblings, family members next door and across the country. All the while missing loved ones no longer with us. It can be so overwhelming. This turmoil of feeling, emotions, memories. All the while trying to produce holiday pictures & memories. I guess what Im trying to say, convince myself of, is that our lives arent a Christmas card. They are complicated, messy, funny, at times, tragic, but beautiful if we let them be. Lets not strive for a photo-shoot. Live the moments. Validate the emotions even if they aren pleasant or easy. Love our friends and family. Let them love us. Remember that it all started in a manger, a stable 2000 years ago. No decorations, no guests, no delicious meal, no ironed linens, no fancy packages. Just a small family and the will of God.
