As I think about Author Smyte-Nine Poet and the friend that Larry Fischer lost I am reminded of my dear friend Kenneth Reeves who too is gone too soon. In honor I was reading the piece I wrote about Ken. I can hear my friend saying “Don’t sweat the small stuff Doc.” I would scream into the heavens “We love you Doc” My Friend To be absent the body Is to be in the presence of the Lord On this day when our hearts are burdened like open sores We have come this far by faith I imagine Ken like a dove that soars Ken you always outdid yourself man The classroom or boardroom your platform You deserve a standing ovation Your contributions amazing Obama has much to be thankful for We are today a kinder and gentler nation You and Keith moved glass ceilings Man You continued to challenge societal misgivings Your swag had not been seen before But our love for you is not politico in nature It is not about a financial statement Not about your position And even less about your investments This Brother was his own man With the innate ability to take the right stance Ken was the guy that supported the common man A zest for life A caring for human beings Success is not to be measured in award attainment It is weighted in contributions I am not much good at scientific endeavors Such that figuring out the multiplicative of the hypotenose I was never that clever Ken sought real world solutions It is about the things my friend stood for The love he shared with the world The love that fills this room What I am talking about is We would get in a room in build Brother We Shared If you didn’t know him My Friend is Golden Ken asked me to write this because He Knows that I Knew Him Ken is not here Ken has gone on before us to prepare a place Ken was the type of guy That would come to see about you Though he had done so many great things He always made you feel like you were valued He worked hard Yet he treasured life He believed that education was key to success But he too believed in community Contributing to community And investing in people’s lives What we should remember about Ken Is his love for his family His caring about humanity But most importantly his belief in the best of us His wanton of the best for us His exaltation of the best in us Our Friend Is Gone But Never Forgotten
