As I think some of you know, weve lost two cats in the past few weeks. Grendel, our old black lady was just very old with kidney problems that degenerated to the point that we had to put her to sleep, and then last week, Koekie, our skin cancer survivor cat. Koekies cancer had returned and was ravaging his face and neck - hed already lost one eye, he went blind in the other, and was just miserable. He was also pretty old, and had a good life since Jaco rescued him off the street and took care of his skin cancer back then. Yesterday, Jacos twitter feed alerted him to a lady in Cape Town whose two female cats had kittens on the same day, leaving her with nine kittens to home (and two cats to spay!). One of the kittens is a white one, and was already getting lots of attention from people wanting her; Jaco was worried that shed go to people who didnt understand how important it is to keep white cats out of the sun down here. So he approached the lady, told her our situation, and she replied that even though shes had a lot of interest in the white kitten, she wants her to go to someone who understands her special needs, and shes ours if we want her. Were going to visit the kitties this weekend, but they wont be ready to leave mum for another three weeks yet - which coincides conveniently with when my mums visit is over, so Ill have plenty of time to pamper a new kitten.
