As I was lying in bed last night trying to shut my mind off, it came to me how powerful & tenacious words can be.....some lodging themselves in the forefront of our memories. These are the ones that flashed through my mind in those brief moments before sleep: I finally figured out what that smell is on entering your house each visit....dirt. (True story-said by a relative....by marriage). Hey Ham Hock! (Said to me by a 7th grade classmate of mine.....notice I didnt say friend). Its been nice knowing you. Were headed out of town. (Implying they didnt expect him to be alive when they got back - Said by an acquaintance to my father-in-law on his deathbed.....still smh). And the one that still haunts me, my daddys last words to me on the phone: Im fine. I love you. P.S. He wasnt fine. He died minutes later driving himself to the hospital. Whoever said sticks & stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me.....you are full of it!
