As I was putting up Christmas lights the other day, I started - TopicsExpress

As I was putting up Christmas lights the other day, I started talking to the clients son, an aspiring architect about to graduate from high school. As we spoke, I heard an all-too familiar story unfold. Hes a bright guy. His layouts have gone to state in design competitions and hes applying to Rice and Cornell - but as he tried desperately to find an internship with any of the local architecture firms, he was only met with disappointment. Not enough experience. Not enough degrees. Not enough significance in the world for his dream and talent to be given the time of day by Tylers professional architects. Im sure theyre quite well established in their positions, so what good would it do them *personally* to train up some high school kid that thinks he knows what he wants to do in life? I feel like theres something deeply and painfully wrong with this picture. Aspirations should be cultivated, because there are now so few. Do you know what it looks like on this side of the generational divide? There is no beacon of hope. The old road map is outdated and the new one is uncharted - Please Tyler, help your youth build a way out of this soul-crushing economic hellhole. If somebody has to beg for it, then Ill be the one to do it. Pass the generational knowledge along. Every astronaut was once a kid that wondered at the sky.
