As I was returning from a walk this morning, above Penrhiwfer, I - TopicsExpress

As I was returning from a walk this morning, above Penrhiwfer, I happened upon the body of a fox which had been killed and thrown in to a tree. For obvious reasons I felt somewhat upset by this find but it did remind me of a poem I wrote about 33 years ago. I Hope its ok to post this here as it is happening all around the valley. Sitting in the forest the sunlight filled my eyes Trees sway gently in the wind then a fox, behind me, cries. I call the beast and question it, she answers in great pain My cubs are dead, killed by man for no reward or gain. They came this morn as if with dawn and put my young to death, I watched close by, afraid to move and fear held my breath. They mocked my kin, degraded them then to their dogs they fed The limp and ravaged bodies of my cubs so newly dead With hate she looked in to my eyes, in fear she backed away Tears I wept in to my hands, in vain I tried to pray. What hope have we weve lost out links with nature and the earth Weve sold our souls and conscience too and our hearts for what its worth.
