As I was sitting in the rocking chair on the front porch with a cup of joe, I was pondering these thoughts. Millions of men and women have died in combat. They were in a place where they would have preferred to not be but were there anyway doing what they had been called to do and knowing somebody had to do it. And what they were doing was intervening to help gain or retain someones life or liberty. But heres the kicker: they very seldom ever knew the names of those for whom they died. They put themselves in harms way for complete strangers the vast majority of the time. Many of us would die for our children or spouses without hesitation. But how many of us would be willing to die for a strangers liberty? Go visit National Cemetery near you and find those whose marker indicates a combat death. We owe them. You see, they also died for our freedom and our childrens freedom because where liberty hangs in the balance, so does our own liberty. While you are there, ask Gods blessings on this departed ones family. Its the very least we can do.
