As I was walking back to the train station from work tonight, I - TopicsExpress

As I was walking back to the train station from work tonight, I was approached by a homeless man who asked me if I had any change. I didnt have anything on me and apologized. The man said, Thanks anyway and have a good night. I crossed the street in a rush to get home after a busy day but stopped on the other side of the street and turned around to see other people passing by the man, most of which did not even look up from their phones to acknowledge him. In that moment, with everyone rushing by this man and ignoring him I just didnt want to be another one of those people passing by wishing they could help if only they had more time or some spare change. I went back and asked if I could buy him something to eat. He asked if I might be able to buy him a cup of coffee, a sandwich, and a bag of potato chips. We went into the store together and I bought him what he had asked for and afterwards he said, God bless you. and I replied You too my friend. Have a good night. After seemingly being bombarded with terrible news from multiple media outlets over the past few months I just couldnt ignore another person in need today and, maybe that isnt gonna change that one mans life, but at the very least I was glad that just 10 bucks and a few minutes of my time could help him get through another night. Im not saying that everyone needs to go out and do this but you just never know if the small effort you put forth can make a world of difference in someone elses life. And, by god, we need more people showing kindness to one another and supporting each other. We really cant afford to live any other way. So, I share this story with you as a snapshot of the lives of two people who know nothing about each other and probably wont meet again. However, I want to pass on that blessing to you all. Whether you are religious or not, I want to pass on the sentiment behind that God bless you tonight.
