As I watched the Christmas play last night at Manteo Baptist , I - TopicsExpress

As I watched the Christmas play last night at Manteo Baptist , I could not help but wonder how many in attendance actually told or explained to there children the true meaning of Christmas. You see it is no secret that I was raised not to believe in santa claus. Not because we were poor, but simply because my mother did not want me and my brother to equate the story of Jesus Christ with the fictional story of santa claus. I know this really upsets some people, but for me I have to take my hat off to my mom. You see I never compared the miracles of Jesus to the miracles of elves. I never complained about a gift or the color of it because I knew it was not a misprint on santas list. I knew that a little elf on a shelf was not recording my ever move but instead the Holy Spirit was. ( side note, that elf is just kind of weird!) Was my excitement for Christmas altered because of this. Absolutely. But I am still very much a giver, I still love my kids and other kids receiving on this day. The only thing that was different is I did not and do not wake up on that morning about to explode with anticipation of what the elves bought through the night. I know what ever is there is much needed and giving out of love not magic. As for me and mine well I have to say as I watched Evie Dane come in with her newest doll to her collection I began to smile. She handed up that little freaky elf by his arm and said look daddy its elfie, can I leave him in here for a minute? I said absolutely. As she walked away I thanked Jesus for nipping that in the bud for me and thanked Him for everything He did and is doing with my family and myself. Is this wrong? I know this, I would rather my child focus on the real spiritual world and not a pretend one. There is alot to this Christmas thing not just receiving gifts. I would rather my children focus on truth and not commercials. I would rather them attribute Christmas with a Savior not a elf on the shelf. But most of all, I would rather them know it all comes from love of each other and the love of Jesus Christ than a good and bad list!! There is a verse in Proverbs that I have for all the corporate giants who feed off the lies told at Christmas, it is in Proverbs 13:11 it says this Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But the one who gathers by labor increases it. Yall have a blessed day1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
