As Im checking out at Walmart in clarion I notice an older man who was missing his hand, didnt take much thought to it till he was checking out beside me I notice he has a veteran hat on. At this point I go over and shake his only hand and tell him how much I appreciate his service and sacrifice for me and this country. Then the old man firmly tightens his hand on mine and starts to tear up and tell me how much that means to him. He proceeds to tell me in his tear filled crackly voice you wouldnt imagine the things Ive seen and done, I watched a ship full of 3 thousand of my fellow servicemen and friends go down in the ocean. He then thanks me again and says you dont know how much that means to me, thank you Everyday we lose veterans to suicide and other PTSD related incidents. We have men and women who sacrificed EVERYTHING to protect our countrys way of being free, and we just discard them after their tours, deployments, contracts are up like they are nothing, expendable. When in fact they are the complete opposite. All it takes is a minute to show them your appreciation, you never know thats all it could take to save one from going home and taking their own life. Awesome to see a well known band like this tackling the issue and letting it known. Please just take the time to thank them, it could mean the diff of life or death.
