As Im preparing for a talk Im giving to a group of women leaders next week, I was reminded that we, as women, often suffer from what Cheryl Sandberg calls, “The Tiara Syndrome”. We keep our head down, deliver excellent work, and we WAIT and we HOPE. We WAIT for the right people to notice our work. We HOPE the right people will read our minds to know what we want. We WAIT and HOPE for someone to magically place a tiara on our head. What a great reminder that HOPING and WAITING are not smart strategies, for any of us. If we want to get noticed, if we want an opportunity, we need to make it happen for ourselves. We need to start using our voice instead of waiting for a tiara to be placed on our head.
