As Im strolling along Boulder Creek, Im reminded of how unfriendly Boulder is, in general. Ive passed well over a hundred people in the past couple hours, as this is a main commuter path and its rush hour. Two...TWO of those people acknowledged me with a smile. I cannot fathom passing within a couple yards of someone and avoiding eye contact, ignoring their existence. I walk and hike every day on a myriad of paths and trails in Lafayette; 9 of 10 people there smile or nod or give a little wave or a hello. What a difference a few miles makes, and what a difference a few smiles make!! Never underestimate the power of the simplest gestures. They can make us or break us. Be good to your sisters and brothers, my friends.
