As Im sure Ive mentioned a few hundred times, Sam Cooke is one of my all time favorites. Id go as far as to say that nobody else moves me quite like Sam. Now I know he recorded some real bubblegum stuff at the height of his fame. Even his biggest hits could be labeled easy listening. But what really cooks, no pun intended, what really blows my mind and my soul, no pun intended, are the Soul Stirrers recordings. Im not a religious man but Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers make me believe in a higher power. Sam started his own label and I guess brought back some of those early recordings?
