As Joseph prepares to trade his guitar for a gun, a routine blood - TopicsExpress

As Joseph prepares to trade his guitar for a gun, a routine blood test reveals that the young Israeli entering the air force may not be the biological child of his Jewish parents. The misadventure of this young man, born to Arab parents and switched at birth with a Jewish infant, had the makings of an instant screwball comedy. But in The Other Son, writer-director Lorraine Levy, a veteran of television comedies, turns the accidental Arab-Israeli baby swap into a drama about families who live in close proximity and constant conflict. Levys film, her third feature, isnt based on a true story, at least not one that she knew, Levy stressed on the telephone from her home in Paris. The screenplay, she said, was distilled from elements of a dilemma that emerged in the fog of war. What we know is that when the Scuds from Baghdad were flying over Israel during the war of 1991, maternity wards of hospitals were evacuated in the panic, she says. It turned out that some children were not properly identified. I have testimony from men and women that they are not the biological children of their parents. WHAT A RIVETING SCENE THIS WAS, as the two look in the mirror, Yacine, [forefront] says to Joseph-Look at us we are Ismael and Issac, the sons of Abraham!!
