As Kick Socca reported on June 6th and the Daily Mirror confirmed today, Juan Mata could end up joining Barcelona. In England, the press have learned that Mourinho has transfer-listed the Spain international despite the fact that Mata was voted the team’s best player of last season by fans and also figured in the PFA’s Team of the Year for 2012/13. Mata, a product of Real Madrid’s youth team set-up, has three years left to run on his existing contract with Chelsea but it appears that he is out of favour with recently-appointed Mourinho. Barça meanwhile feel that Mata would fit perfectly into their possession-based, pass-and-move style of play. Furthermore, the player has already shown that he has an understanding with Barça’s internationals in the Spain national side. The excellent relationship between Mata’s father and club president Sandro Rosell would ease negotiations between the two clubs. Elsewhere, Cadena SER claim that Mourinho has requested that Mata should not receive performance-related bonuses stipulated in his contract. Last season, the forward hit 19 goals in 63 appearances for Chelsea – figures which would automatically activate improved terms according to a clause in his contract yet Mourinho is seeking to block any extra payments. -M3551
