As Lent draws to a close, I am reflecting on my decision to turn - TopicsExpress

As Lent draws to a close, I am reflecting on my decision to turn off the television. I allowed myself to watch a little morning and evening news, Jeopardy with my mother when I could, and an occasional movie. But I turned off the constant background drone that I had gotten used to as I sewed, crafted, quilted etc. Instead I took time to listen to a podcast or an audio book. Or I put everything aside to read more than I would have prior to this Lenten discipline. As a result I powered through 13 books - all wonderful. Some were extremely powerful - some just entertaining. But I am so grateful for the experience of reading them all (listed below) and I feel certain I didnt miss anything significant on the TV shows I decided to skip. The Chaperone – Laura Moriarty Dear Life: Stories – Alice Munro On Chesil Beach – Ian McEwan The Beginners Goodbye – Anne Tyler Looking for Me – Beth Hoffman Mister Owitas Guide to Gardening – Carol Wall The Invention of Wings – Sue Monk Kidd Syrup – Max Barry A Year by the Sea – Joan Anderson The Aviators Wife – Melanie Benjamin Dark Places – Gillian Flynn One Moment, One Morning – Sarah Rayner Sycamore Row – John Grisham
