As Local as you can get......Draw down of Chapman Lake still possible - Mtg tomorrow, Sept 2nd 1:30 SCRD Important SCRD Infrastructure Services Committee Meeting Thursday, September 2, 2014, 1:30 George Smith has asked me to notify as many people as possible to attend another meeting regarding the environmentally insane proposal to initiate mechanisms to draw down Chapman Lake. Both Chapman Lake and Edwards Lake are already drawn down more than they should be if the riparian areas of the Tetrahedron Wilderness Area,as it was originally called, are to be properly protected. There are other options. This is our only intact old growth ecosystem left on the Sunshine Coast. If you havent already done so, please read Georges report on this issue, attached below. This is not the first time this action has been threatened and it will take a show of public support to turn it back again now. There is not enough water now because there has been to much new housing and this trend has been well know to our regional water purveyor for well over 10 years. It’s hard to believe - but things have gone from bad to worse in Chapman Creek. This afternoon I discovered that “Surespan” either the new owner or contractor for CNI or AJB is logging and building roads in our Chapman Creek Community Watershed Reserve! Not far from the intake to our main water supply on the Sunshine Coast - without notifying the SCRD or the SIB. In 2007 Concerned Citizens of the Sunshine Coast Community defended our source of drinking water with months of intense struggle. We can’t allow this outrage to carry on. Join us for an emergency action tomorrow morning, Tuesday. Meet by the SCRD Dump on Dusty Road at 6:00 am. Bring Coffee, Tea and something to eat. Let’s protect our “Community Watershed”!
