As Mayor, it is my honor to welcome all of our new teachers to Chesapeake, where we dream big and do great things We are glad all of you made a commitment to our city and to our children. Our children have the capacity to learn, to ingest, to digest and appropriate information. In point of fact learning at every level will yield lifetime benefits, and be one of the most significant contributors to Chesapeake’s success at every level. Nothing, absolutely nothing - will replace a well-qualified and dedicated teacher who can encourage a child to do well. . . to excel. Each of you is ready to stretch- to make it more fun, productive, and add value to others You are teachers who are leaders and leaders touch a heart before they touch a hand. You are not just present you are connected to your students I am grateful for your generosity. It comes from your heart and permeates every aspect of your life Each of you are effective and demonstrated that you are trusted, worthy and valuable. You are resolute, determined, and unwavering. Frederick Douglass said “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” As I said before we are a great city destined to do great things. But today, you need to know that Chesapeake – the whole of Chesapeake – thanks you. And from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. God bless
