As Obama ascended to the highest post of the first economic, political, military and diplomatic power in the world, he clearly put the US priorities in a world where China seems to be withinn 20 yrs the new challenger. The scd war in Iraq and the liberation of Afghanistan did waver American omnipotence who thought getting rid of these international institutions which were created on its own interest. Yes, but that was before the fall of Berlin Wall, the collapse of Soviet Empire which simplified till the caricature global geopolitical issues! Obama, the Democrat, such as Clinton, said: technological military hegemony being acquired, remains to maintain US economic hegemony. All HR and technological resources that were involved in ideological war were therefore redeployed to contain China. China who coming out of 2 centuries of lethargy. China woke up in less than a generation and deployment of the Asian dragons wings scared suddently the world. Obama thought that the future of USA were in Asia-Pacific partnership so often mentioned since Bush and Clinton. Partisans of the asian-pacific alliance (who should includes Japan, Taiwan, South-East, South-Korea, Oceania and... India) won almost their bet. US administration looked European allies with distain and ignored Russia. Now what said Obama in The Hague? Beyond circumstances polite formula which should remind “the indefectibility links that unite the destinies of USA and Europe...” Yes, indeed, Europe is back in core concern of US administration. Transatlantic ties woven by 2 centuries of common history, over 50 yrs of shared destiny through NATO and defense of democratic values is the cornerstone of global stability. Although it is regrettable that after the accomplishment of laborious Uruguay Round which ended GATT and gave birth to WTO, USA were first turned to Pacific to ensure their own prosperity. Very later, they realized that Europe was 1 of the keys to global economic prosperity. Suddenly, Europe takes back dramaticcally its place in the great geopolitical chessboard and as former ally. Same ally who was once patronized or even contempt should be back the moral insurance, the political and economic security against the most viable block drawning around China and Russia. Both former ideological brothers and now suspicious dudes of classroom!
