As Obstetrics continues to witness serious break-through and more preeemies have high chances of surviving (like Ruby born at 25 weeks and turning 5 in August), paedriatic opthalmology cases will be on the increase. Prematurity has many complications including those which affect the eyes. Miss Onyegbule had congenital bilateral esotropia caused by retinopathy of prematurity(ROP), prolonged use of oxygen in the incubator. ROP eventually resulted in high myopia in the left eye and retinal detachment in the right. Surgery in October, glasses since November and yippee! Progress! The cost of prematurity doesnt end after leaving NICU, it begins then. We are grateful for mercies. And grateful to everyone who helps TBHI to assist preemies whose parents cant afford their care even in hospitals. May Gods blessings rest upon you. Amen.
