As Ogidi-Gbegbaje’s Honoured For Humantarian Service By AZUH KINGSLEY There is no gainsaying the fact that family upbringing plays significant roles in the shaping of life styles of individuals in the society. Whatever is gotten from the family front is transferred to the larger society. In otherwise, those who are from good family backgrounds are benefits to the larger society; they help to build a society that will be beneficial to all and sundry, they make the society worth living and they see the plight of others as their own plight, and provide solution to them. They try through their philanthropic gesture to bring equality in the society. In fact, their success is success to the society. Those from questionable family backgrounds are menace to the society. They make the society ungovernable and encourage evil activities; they have nothing good to offer the society. Today, many kind hearted men are out helping the less privileged in the society; the poverty stricken, the indigent students and the sick. They bless the people financially without making noise about it. Many people that are happy today would have been in the kingdom of sadness and everlasting solitude without this group of people who have decided to be blessing to others. The Permanent Secretary Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Eddy Ogidi- Gbegbaje is one such person. Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje is really a man who has devoted his life to improve the lives of others. He does it without blowing his trumpet or wanting his name publicised. Today men and women no longer follow the path of honour, some are no longer their brother’s keeper but care only for themselves and their immediate families, but here is a man, whose generosity, kindness and charity have touched on the lives of fellow human beings. He believes that the society can be repositioned to ensure that family units are encouraged to imbibe the right culture through proper education of the youths on things that are noble. Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje’s philanthropic gesture is no doubt traversing the length and breadth of the State, and many organizations are coming out to recognise his effort, but somehow, as it is his nature, he always turned down such award offers, saying that he is not doing what he is doing to gain recognition but to help build the society. Recently, one organization had to force him to accept its award by refusing to leave his Office unless accepts their offer which they said was to spur other people to positive actions geared towards the betterment of mankind. Actually the management of Bliss Magazine led by Mr. Morris Egbare laid the award ambush that caught Ogidi-Gbegbaje by surprise that he could not resist. Even friends and visitors encouraged him to take and at the end he gladly accepted. Presenting the Bliss Noble Award of Excellence to Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje, the publisher of Bliss Magazine, Mr. Morris Egbare said that the Permanent Secretary was honoured with the award in recognition of his contributions to the growth and development of the society. Egbare noted that the Permanent Secretary has given succour to the less privileged individuals in the society through his philanthropic gestures, disclosing that Ogidi-Gbegbaje has been putting smiles on the faces of students especially, the undergraduates, by helping them to realize their academic potentials through scholarship. While urging the Permanent Secretary not to rest on his oars, the Publisher of the magazine congratulated him on the award bestowed on him, adding that he should see the honour done him through the award as something that would sustain his passion for humanitarian services and spur other well-meaning individuals into action. Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje on his part thanked the publisher and management of Bliss Magazine for appreciating his modest contributions towards the welfare of humanity, Pointing out that he does not solicit for awards, just as he said “I am very quiet about the things that I do for humanity”, adding that, he was very selective on the type of award that he receives. He maintained that it was God that gave him the opportunity, strength and composure to do what he is doing for humanity and that God should take the glory. For inculcating sound moral discipline in him and for giving him sound education which, according to him, laid the foundation for the achievements he had so far recorded in life he dedicated the award to his late parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ogidi-Gbegbaje. The Permanent Secretary who underscored the importance of education in the development of any society, called on parents and guardians to invest in the education of their children and wards, adding that education was the best legacy that they could bequeath to their children and wards. Being an award from the Fourth Estate of the Realm the Permanent Secretary seized the opportunity to call on media practitioners to place high premium on the ethics of their profession by balancing their report, advising that media practitioners should always verify their facts before going to the press. Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje urged themto be objective in their reportage so as not to cause unnecessary uproars among the people which are capable of generating tension and retarding progress in the society. Yes those who know Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje can attest that he is a man of the people. The Holy Bible says that when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice. The successes that are recorded in the implementation of government policies and programmes in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government are as a result of his open door policy and his style of carrying people along. There is no staffer in the Office who is not satisfied with his style of leadership, unless that staff is from the kingdom of Lucifer. For being there for humanity, we say thank you and more grease to your elbow.
