As Ronald Reagan once said. We live in a world that is lit by lightning. So much is changing and will change, but so much endures and transcends time. This statement could not describe Myanmar any better! As I sit in a chair constructed of cheap plastic waiting for my breakfast to arrive my senses become overwhelmed. To my left are 2000 year old ancient pagodas, slowly deteriorating from a mixture of the Burmese sun, and man himself. In front of them sits a well travelled road, mainly used by the locals wearing traditional longyis moving valuable supplies from one end of town to the other by horse and carriage. While the local people of Bagan are not working all day to earn a months wage that would equal that of what western countries would earn in a few days, they spend their free time sitting around large plasma TVs in small rundown restaurants, cheering for a football team from a country they have never been to. After speaking to these people, once again traveling has instilled in me that you do not have to have money or physical objects to lead a happy life, just a sense of adventure, the clothes on your back, and some good friends and family! Heres to 18 months on the road, discovering new cultures and meeting new people!
