As a Human Being, I was Designed to Live and Work in Manila, but - TopicsExpress

As a Human Being, I was Designed to Live and Work in Manila, but as an Individual, I was Never Meant for this Place This past three weeks has been a sort of an epiphany for me. I am used to being away from home and this is nothing new. To stay here in Manila for three weeks now has been the longest I have tried to stay and survive in this urban jungle. Am I performing at par so far? I am being unfair, because I am not asking the right question. It should be – am I finding all these satisfying? Frankly, yes. But being the confrontational person that I am, half-hearted I feel for this. Let me be specific – MRT, traffic, expensive food, people don’t know each other, taxi drivers are fare monsters, elevators make me sick and shopping malls confuse me. MRTs! I wish there was a more feasible way of moving around. Taxis aren’t practical. Note to the government: add more train units. MRTs aren’t losing money, they don’t run out of passengers, and most definitely there is an inexhaustible opportunity to develop and improve services. I do not bet on expecting any change, but if there was, I wouldn’t already be here. Traffic is sickening. End of argument. Expensive food. What I spend here for a day, I spend in Ilocos for a week. I am trying to outstretch the moolah that I have versus the expenses that I accrue, and it’s not like trying to convince your dog to fetch a stick. Elevators make me sick! I have motion sickness that relatively exists only when in lateral movements, but was never in vertical movements previously. For the last three weeks, I have engorged on Bonamine at least 5 times. Never puked, but wished I did. Shopping malls are too big. In the provinces, having smaller malls is a curse, but not many will consider it a blessing. Smaller malls have only the important things. Bigger malls intimidate you with brands you are not familiar with and will never buy in the near future. I personally don’t get the idea of people buying expensive products without getting into the reason why. A bag that is 50% less than a very expensive bag with the same purpose and use will never catch people’s attention. Why? Because no one wants to admit they can only afford such. For the record, I have bought the following so far – two long sleeves for 699pesos with one free neck tie, a luggage labeled Buy One Take One but was technically buy one take three for 1799. So, looking at how things have transpired versus my expectations of things, I can generalize that while all these are flattering and satisfying, I like to go home soon. :D
