As a Journalist timing is everything. We were sent out today to try to find the owner of la Tolteca, the Mexican restaurant in downtown Phoenix that burned down over the weekend. He was nowhere to be found, but the firefighters on scene told me to follow them back to their station. Their overnight crew had responded to the fire. The guys decided they wanted to do something for the 40 plus families who had lost their jobs just before Christmas because of it. They collected donations from a local gym that held a toy drive. When we arrived at the station they invited us to go along with them to deliver the presents. It was as incredible and humbling as you might imagine. 4-year-old Joshs mom was a manager at the station, he went right for the matchbox cars. His brother, 10-year-old Anthony told me he didnt ask Santa for anything and didnt expect anything this Christmas. Because of the generosity of a local business and some big hearted firefighters these families who were living paycheck to paycheck will have something under the tree. Thank you to the Phoenix Fire Department Station 8, and all first responders who tirelessly put their community first.
