As a Neshaminy alum, I am proud of Tara Huber and her students. As a Neshaminy School District taxpayer, I am appalled at the actions my school board has taken to perpetuate student censorship, hinder education, and undermine journalistic ethics. As a former EIC who once had the awful reaponsibility to follow my personal, professional, and journalistic ethics against the advisement, demands, and perceived threats of the administration and other stakeholders, I stand in solidarity with Gillian and her decisions. We teach our children ethics and constantly ask them turn bow down, ignore, and act in complete opposition to them regularly. We cannot teach our children what is right and then spit in their faces when they call us on our bluff. I hope these students and Ms. Huber explore their legal options, if for no other reason than to bring to light to this ever-present issue with student journalism.
