As a State Representative, I observed the National Education - TopicsExpress

As a State Representative, I observed the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers beginning to support Common Core then to vehemently questioning common core. I attended a Northeast Symposium sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in October 2011 and was not impressed by the mechanics of introduction and implementation of common core. In 2013 I attended a National Symposium sponsored by Jeb Bush and his Excellence in Education non-profit and this was a pro common core event. I believe that that would make this a non-partisan issue. Ask the teachers in Nashua or New York who took practice test for the Smarter Balance Assessment and I heard many were upset over the content. Where is the validation for this test required by the State Constitution? Ann Marie Banfield does her homework and testifies frequently before the State Education Committee. I am also a school board member and seen the tactics of the State Department of Education(DOE) to bring common core in the back door. Where were the public hearings to inform parents of this huge reform of education of their children? Just remember the DOE is 85% funded by the Federal Government according to Commissioner Barrys own words. Who is she beholden to?
