As a communications student at SFU watching the mayoral debate, it - TopicsExpress

As a communications student at SFU watching the mayoral debate, it was interesting to see how the mannerisms and presentation of each candidate gave interesting insights that tells you more about them than what they say through their surface messages. Without mentioning names, I was shocked that some candidates read opening addresses and didnt make eye contact with the camera. Do you want a mayor who cant form cohesive thoughts without pre-writing it out? Another thing I noticed was how some candidates were fidgety...a couple were fidgety throughout (probably because they were nervous from being on TV for the first time) but what I found more interesting was that one or two candidates only became fidgety and nervous (and sweating) near the end - a result of their platforms and policies having been attacked throughout with very little ammunition for a comeback. Perhaps reminiscent of the Kennedy VS Nixon debate? Anyways, perhaps a discourse analysis about the presentation of the candidates can give interesting insights into their intentions, strengths, and weaknesses. I implore you to look at the debate through that lens. youtu.be/B60r-URZcxw
