As a faithful Mormon and Christian, I face a lot of pressure to give up my anarchist ways. Such pressure is often accompanied with scriptures and prophetic counsel that allegedly teach acceptance of the state. However, I feel no need to dive into the scriptures with non-anarchists that want to persuade me to embrace the government, constitution, or whatever. Here is why: I believe in Jesus. Jesus’ central message was love. When I love someone I won’t take their stuff or assault them, and I won’t ask anyone else to do that for me. The state, in order to function, MUST take people’s stuff and assault (or threaten to assault) them if they resist. I will NOT make an exception to the Lord’s commandment to love. I will not tell anyone what to do or believe so I ask them to please not ask me to reject the core principle upon which the Gospel is founded. A war was fought in heaven in which the fate of our agency was decided. That agency continues with us today and yet many people, including many of my closest friends and family, continue to try to convince me that I do not possess the full exercise of my agency and that God himself has set up a coercive institution that will force me and others to make correct choices. I do not believe such doctrine and I never will. I promise anyone that, for every scripture they can twist to support the state, I can interpret the same scripture to teach the rejection of the state. [This started as a comment on a previous post but I decided it had to be a an post in its own right]
