As a female Marine, Cpl. Danija Mack has had to overcome obstacles that male Marines havent faced. As an administrative specialist, she said she has had to work harder to prove she can hang with the guys in this male-dominated occupation. To support women like Mack, the Marine Corps Community Services Female Mentorship program at Pensacola NAS provides females a safe group where they can have a sense of camaraderie with women who face similar challenges. Its definitely a good way for us as female Marines to get together and be able to relate since it is a male-dominated career, Mack said. The Female Mentorship program, led by Capt. Valerie Rethwill, the groups officer in charge, provides a class or training once a month relevant to their needs as women in the Marines.
