As a follow-up to the letter which was published in one newspaper - TopicsExpress

As a follow-up to the letter which was published in one newspaper a few weeks ago concerning McNairy County Schools, or to be more accurate the attempt by some elected officials to link more and better paying jobs to the re-instating of the wheel tax, there are still a lot of questions to be asked and answered. To this point we have heard no answers to, or even discussions on, questions asked or inferred in that letter. Mike Rowe, Dirtiest Jobs, was on “Huckabee” (Fox News Channel) last Saturday night and part of their discussion concerned education and jobs. They, and we, agreed that more emphasis should be placed on the, so called, trades instead of costly degrees where there are fewer job openings. There is nothing wrong with sweating for a living. At this point another question comes to mind. When the youngest of our three children graduated from McNairy Central High School in 1978 “Home Schooling” was not even a viable option but in the ensuing 35 years it has become quite common. We were wondering, along with others, what requirements are set in place by the County or State in order to ensure that children who are Home Schooled meet all rules and regulations required of both Public and Private schooled children. One question is; are they required to take State or County supervised test and if so how often? Being so far removed from the public school system makes it harder for us to understand where all the money already appropriated is being spent and what is so desperately needed as to require a $50 wheel tax. We don’t need numbers as to how much other counties charge for wheel tax but the overall tax rate of other counties. Think about it, please.
