As a former KES boy, who lives in the United States, I have tried - TopicsExpress

As a former KES boy, who lives in the United States, I have tried really hard to carry the difficult and sometimes very painful and inspirational lessons I have learned from being a South African with me on my travels. As I reflect upon this past year, there is one powerful image, which in essence, sums up the true spirit of my journey over the last 12 months. Especially during our continuing USO World tour to help kids who are going through a tough time. This image also paints a picture of how the world COULD and SHOULD be, illustrated by two little boys whose fathers were both deployed to Afghanistan at the time. Two little boys who were longing for their dads to the point of tears. Two little boys who comforted each other and demonstrated the power of empathy and hope. Two little boys who came up to me after my performance and courageously shared their pain. The picture speaks for itself because no words can truly describe the compassion and caring these hurting little souls expressed as they comforted each other. “Empathy is the glue that holds society together.” – Hugh MacCleod
