As a former athlete who experienced the first hand discrimination - TopicsExpress

As a former athlete who experienced the first hand discrimination meted to us as national athletes as against the favouritism shown to our footballers ,I should be happy at the Super Eagless monumental demise. This was a campaign to qualify for an African Nations Cup we are the defending champions. At least we can save billions of Naira that would have lined the pockets of those who have no love for our sports especially football. When we beat Congo, the encomiums poured in without end. Some ascribed it to the subtle intervention of Mr. President. Others to the promise of Naira rain by Akpabio. How ironic that the Super Eagles were shot down at his masterpiece? This rubbishes the claim of financial inducement for the conquest of the Congolese team in Port Noire. As a nation we live in self denial. We are loosing grip with reality. We are not preparing for success as such we are faced with failure. We must stop papering over the deep cracks that are the problems on the wall of the nation. What litters the country is individual successes as evident by the blessings from various sources fraudulent or genuine. It will pain soccer loving Nigerians to their bone marrows but its not the end of the world. Consider our fellow citizens who have been killed by insurgents and other calamities. You can at least watch your favourite clubs nationally and internationally. Goodluck reigns. Lets pray for our country. Who ever thought of the debacle in Uyo?Goodnight!
