As a lifelong martial arts, I have been forced to “tap out” - TopicsExpress

As a lifelong martial arts, I have been forced to “tap out” more times than I’d like to remember. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, to tap out means to give up. If someone has you in a choke hold and you can’t escape, tapping the person 3 times on the arm tells the person to let go before you are rendered unconscious. If your opponent has you in an arm lock, tapping out tells your opponent to release the hold before your elbow dislocates. Tapping out in martial arts is basically giving up in order to “live to fight another day”. Being forced to tap means that you are training with partners who are at your level or at a higher level and serves as a wonderful learning experience. Unfortunately, too many of us “tap out” in real life. We give up or quit many times just before something amazing is about to happen.
