As a lifelong student of science (and the son of a science teacher), I think the science project is one of the most pivotal opportunities for our young people to learn how to think critically and devise a sound line of inquiry. The science part of the science project is a key article of our education system that can ignite passions that might otherwise lay dormant and equip minds to not only be genuinely curious about how the world works, but how to systematically satisfy that curiosity. The project part of the science project provides an exercise to learn how to plan ones time, and how to present ideas. I can think of few other elementary educational tools that accomplish so much in a single artifact. That being said, Im sure the findings here are approximately accurate, though I still question the findings.
