As a member society of the Foederatio Internationalis Una Voce (FIUV), we post the following official statement by the FIUV Council regarding the reported threats of excommunication levelled in two dioceses (one in Argentina, another in Italy) against those who attend rites celebrated by the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX). FIUV and all of its members are faithful to the Holy See and the legitimate bishops and hierarchical bodies of the Roman Catholic Church, and seek to promote only those Masses and other liturgical services celebrated in canonical regularity under the bishops. At the same time, we recognize that Catholics who attend the rites and ceremonies of the SSPX should not in any way be treated as criminals, as people who have no rights -- indeed, even criminals have rights, and cannot be punished arbitrarily! The treatment of SSPX adherents must be always be in accordance with the law and with due process, with no arbitrary and illegal punishments, and done in a spirit of charity and mercy. We pray for the day when all who value the Traditions of the Church will be united as one, within the same Catholic body, under the same hierarchy, in a canonically regular manner.
