As a musician I am performing hundreds of times a year. Whether its busking (like i did today in Browns Bay) or at a venue, corporate or private gig, Im in front of people doing my thing, and thats how I earn a living. I think sometimes people therefore assume that I am a very confident person. So I wanted to share something with anyone interested in reading. While its fair to say I have done some work on myself (14 years so far) to learn how to live and understand/reduce some barriers e.g. anxiety, depression, psychosis etc...and while I experience the world in a very different way now as a result...and while I have a good life and I love my job - I also find each performance challenging to various degrees. However, the validation I receive from you guys, from people on the streets of Auckland, from people that email/text me and tell me that my music means something to them - that is what supports and allows me to better manage any negativity directed at me and my music, and really helps me to continue to do what I do. Im not searching for compliments, my agenda is simply to tell you that your kindness makes a significant difference to my experience of the world and supports my music each and every time I play. I literally fill my heart and mind with the kind and positive things that people say/email/text to me as I drive to gigs. So thank you for all the kind, generous and thoughtful words of encouragement over the last 4 years. I will gently pack them for tomorrow night and carry them with me into the Radio ZB Studio for The Nutters Club NZ gig (which btw i am really looking forward to) x Sam RB :D
