As a parent who is trying to find some HONEST information regarding the effectiveness of vaccines, its nice to see this being discussed somewhere other than via misinformed Facebook memes from both the pro vax and anti vax camps - I find these declarations that are being passed off as gospel nothing short of insulting to my intelligence. This statement - the incestuous relationship between the public health community and the vaccine makers and public officials - THIS is the issue I have with vaccines. There are NO transparent studies conducted - only one sided studies with a vested interest in one party or another. The possible correlation between autism and vaccines isn’t even something I have considered - there are far more obvious concerns that I worry about, such as the long term damage to the digestion and respiratory systems, or the high number of children who suffer febrile convulsions shortly after receiving their shots and the potential issues that result from these episodes. All this to combat diseases that were on the decline due to improvement in health and hygiene anyway. With so much conflicting information, it is a hard decision to make, but one that would be made easier for parents if studies weren’t flawed or weighted one way or another. I don’t have a horse in this race - I’m still trying to make the right decision for my children based on the limited amount of unbiased information I can find. All I ask for is an independent study showing the pros and cons for both sides – which I realise this study isn’t, but it isn’t being funded by a company intent on selling millions of dollars in product either, and that’s a start.
