As a part of North Carolina Disabilities Employment Awareness month, New Hanover County Schools’ Transition Advisory Team will hold the “What’s Next in Your Life?” Transition Fair for parents and students with disabilities and special needs. The fair will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Dale K. Spencer Building, located at 1802 South 15th Street, Wilmington, NC. Admission is free. Wilmington area agencies and employers will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to speak with students and parents. Evening events start at 5:00 p.m., with agencies available to speak with students and parents until 6:30 p.m. There will be evening breakout sessions beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. These sessions will include presentations such as: “Legal Questions & Concerns,” “Vocational Rehabilitation Services,” and “Roles and Responsibilities of Families and Students in the Post Secondary and Employment Settings - How Do They Change?. The fair is designed to expose students and parents to the employment and educational opportunities, as well as the community services, which are available to them in the greater Wilmington area. The employers and community agencies will be available to share information on employment opportunities and resources provided by local agencies. Students from Mosley Performance Learning Center, Ashley, Hoggard, Laney and New Hanover high schools will be given the opportunity to take part in the fair during the day.
