Here is the latest information reported to us on the Beaver Creek Complex: -- Residents near Beaver Creek Fire urged to be “fire wise” The incident meteorologist on the Beaver Creek Fire near Hailey, Idaho, issued a red-flag warning today in response to forecasts that suggested potential for significant weather-related fire activity. Sustained winds of 5 to 11 mph are predicted from the west and southwest, with 20 mph gusts. These prevailing and localized winds will drive the growth and direction of the fire, as will the availability of fuel and alignment of drainages. A Haines Index of 6 means the air will be unstable and plumes will dominate the fire, increasing the potential for long-range spotting, especially from the afternoon to early evening. The fire grew to 38,739 acres by Wednesday morning, pushed by shifting winds into Wolf Tone Creek to the east and above Warm Springs Creek to the north. Structure protection crews are working in communities in the Deer Creek drainage, Greenhorn Gulch and on Highway 75 near Baker Creek. Residents of these and other areas close to the fire’s advance can help firefighters by taking steps to increase the likelihood that their homes can survive a fire. Suggestions include clearing combustible materials away from any structures, including decks and patios, and creating a defensible space at least 30 feet — but ideally 100 to 200 feet — in all directions around the home and outbuildings. A community meeting is set for 7 p.m. tonight at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Center, 1050 Fox Acres Road, in Hailey.
