As a result of Stuarts donation four people have received a transplant and have been given an opportunity for improved health and a better quality of life. Stuarts heart was successfully transplanted into a middle aged man who had been unwell for many years, he is recovering well. The recipient of Stuarts liver is a middle aged man who had been acutely unwell. His surgery was successful and is making a steady recovery. Unfortunately Stuarts pancreas was unsuitable for islet as no islet cells were able to be isolated. Stuarts left kidney recipient is a young man who had been dependent on dialysis for more than 5 years, his transplant surgery went smoothly. Stuarts right kidney recipient was middle aged man who had been dependant on dialysis for 3 years and is recovering well and the treating team said that he and his family are so grateful for the transplant. Both these recipients are looking forward to life free from the constraints of dialysis. Stuarts corneas and tissue have been donated to research. This important research aims to further understand eye disease, including glaucoma and muscular degeneration. On behalf of recipients, research units and the wider community, we would like to thank you again for your kindness and consideration for others at a time of immense lose.
