As a warm up to tonights dress and glamour orgy, I mean the Oscars, I caught three contenders recently and here are my two cents: Blue Jasmine: I despise Woody Allen movies but I admire Cate Blanchett so I had to watch my free screener. Movie was decent and she, as always, was amazing and will win an Oscar. Dallas Buyers Club: HOLY SHIT. Although I felt Jennifer Garner to be a miscast I was blown away by McConaughey and Leto and they both are deservedly in the running. What a movie! I cried! The Wolf of Wall Street: Leo was awesome playing the same character he always plays and Jonah Hills performance was surprisingly impressive. The movie was fun but an hour too long. Im not on the committee but I like to judge a performance by asking, Can I imagine someone else in the role? I dont think Michael Fassbender is getting too much buzz, but I cannot imagine another actors performance one-upping his. Conversely, I can easily mentally replace Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in American Hustle. So anyway, as if anyone gives a shit, here are my predictions. Who I think SHOULD win, not who I think WILL win: Best Picture: Dallas Buyers Club (12 Years a Slave will probably win) Best Actress: Cate Cate Blanchett Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey (Chiwetel Ejiofor might win) Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyongo Best Supporting Actor: Michael Fassbender (Jared Leto will probably win) Best Director: What do I know about this? ....steps off box. Im getting excited for dresses, dresses, dresses, dresses, dresses!
