As a zombie author, there is one thing that holds true: Once in a while we get a review so amazing that we lean back, smile and say Wow. I got a review like that from a person who has been invested in the entire series, Holly Zaldivar. Id like to share it with you. Yeah, Ive had 29 other 5-star reviews (Im 30 for 30 now on the 7th book in the series) but somehow this one got to me and made me proud. Ive only been begging for this book to be written. Ive only written it myself in my head a hundred times or so. I never even came close to the spectacular job Eric Shelman has done. Every time I read a book in this series, its like coming home again. Even though there are zombies and crazy people trying to kill you, the world of Dead Hunger is a wonderful place to be. I love the fact the novel is set at least a decade after the last novel, giving all the characters, especially Isis and Max time to grow up and hone their skills. The crew has been able to create a community setting, enjoying a long period of relative safety. It serves as the perfect juxtaposition for the threat and battle that comes their way. Theres also the sense the original characters -- Gem, Flex, and the like -- are getting old enough that theyre looking to the next generation to carry some of the weight in the war for their survival. Not that theyre willing to hang up their rifles and throwing stars yet! They still have all the skills and moves weve come to know and love, but now we can see their kids talents as well. I never expected many of the twists and turns Shelman takes in this novel, and the plot as a whole was completely unexpected in an extremely pleasant way. This is definitely another crowning addition to the series. (**Rubs hands**) I cant wait to see what Erics planning next! So thats it. I think you all know now why this would make me feel so damned good. Thank you, Holly. Not only did you make the effort to go back and review the book, you made my day. :-)
