As all those who know me well, know that there are two major Equine events each year that I thoroughly enjoy being part of. The CDI in May and the Dressage Championships in October. I arrived down at SCIEC on Thursday morning at 5.30 am., bright and early for the usual 8.30 start. The day went well and everyone was pleased with my announcing. On day 2, I was in the Announcers box having a lovely bacon and egg roll before the start of the days competition and did not get to finish it as I suddenly did not feel well. Competition started and so did my shivering and uncontrollable shakes much to the concern of everyone in the announcers box.. The 2 onsite St Johns Ambulance men were called in to check me over, BP up, pulse racing, temp up but cold extremities. I dont know what it was but the shakes stopped after a while and I carried on announcing for a while but had to go into SCIEC s office to rest where the staff were all very attentive and kind. I made it back to where I was staying for the night and turned up for work the next day, Saturday, but I think with the current world health scare on Ebola and other deseases, no one one wanted to come near me and I felt like an outcast !!!! But to be fair I do understand their concerns and management had to be very mindful of everyone present at the venue, particularly as no one knew what was wrong with me. I take resposibility for that as I did not go to see a Doctor as everyone was recommending that I should. I did not feel well throughout the day and had to push myself through it. I normally do all the announcing in the commentary box in the Indoor Arena but management were concerned for the health of the others in that confined space so I was put outside to commentate on the outdoor competitions. I again made it back to where I was staying and felt marginally better but last night was dreadful and I woke up with the worst headache and most severe Vertigo that I have ever had and could not stand unaided let alone walk. So unfortuntely I missed the fourth and final day of this years National Dressage Championships. I spent the day resting and my dear friends and hosts, Jon and Elizabeth Muir, looked after me so very well and by 3.0.pm I was steady enough on my feet to very carefully drive home which is where I am now typing this note to all my Facebook friends. My 2 lovely German Shepherds went ballistic when they saw me and nearly crashed through the window to get to me and the 4 mares who been fed by my neighbours all came running to the fence when they heard my voice. A really beautiful welcome home from a not very pleasant few days away.
