As already decided , i went for a birding session today afternoon at 02:30 p.m. with my best half. It was her first Bird_Walk , though i asked her to wear boots , she preferred chappals , which in long run proved beneficial for me ( she had to stay put at one place ). On arrival at the designated spot , our beloved Borgaon Dam , i noticed very few birds were there and no other birders had turned up. After some time , few fellows turned up one by one and first to arrive on scene was Pramod Jirapure , soon Dr. Deepak Dabhere joined us. Pramod was first to point out the Hoopoe to us whcih was leisurely foraging on ground. At first glance , i did not notice anything unusal , then i lost him and after some 15 minutes , again spotted him by the edge of water , i always wanted to get a good clcik of Hoopoe , so i cautiously approached and noticed the bird had freezed. I still kept my caution and also instructed others to be careful in approach. Any how , i noticed that the bird allowed us to approach very near , we were happy but still did not want to disturb the bird. It was a juvenile definitely a juvenile , no doubt about it and i presumed that after seeing us ( more than 5 people by then ) the bird went in shock and freezed. True it was , bit it was Dr. Praveen Joshi , who speculated that the bird must be injured and unable to fly. I was very sure that the bird was norma as i have seen it fly and i went ahead . I clicked some 200 images of this fellow , who never thought of flying away and i also realized that what Dr. Pravin Joshi had speculated , was a fact , the bird was injured . As i was within some some 10 ft , i observed that the birds wing was damaged and bird was not at comfort . We all back tracked and left the bird alone . After sometime , i saw that my young friend Akash Pasle , had picked up the injured bird in his hand and was inspecting the damaged wing . We all came to conclusion that the bird must have received electrical shock , its primary wing were beyond any repairs and it was better to leave the bird at Mother Natures care . As soon as Akash put the bird on ground , it literally moved fast ( no it did not fly ) and went out of our sight withing next five minutes. My best half was somewhat reluctant to let it go and leave it at mercy , as she wanted to take care of the bird. So here he is. Hoopoe Borgaon Dam , Yavatmal 445001 04/01/2015
