As an alumni of the organization... ALEC brings together free-market minded lawmakers that desire a place to meet and discuss ideas and learn from one another in terms of good and bad outcomes from policy initiatives that further our shared ideology. It can keep us from making the same mistake repeatedly in 50 states, certainly. But, we can also duplicate successful free-market public policy more expediently by actively engaging legislators from other states. The people who bash this professional organization for state legislators simply dont understand what it really is. Or, they do, but they simply dont like free-market public policy and prefer those ideas do not spread among the states. That is OK. There are many other state legislator professional organizations that embrace the other side of the ideological spectrum. Everyone will find a home in one that fits their beliefs.
