As an employee of Hornepayne First Nation, I feel like some people are misguiding other people regarding the nwmo. Some people are saying they dont know whats going on! Members should be consulted! A general meeting should take place! Well, a few years back there was an information session regarding the nuclear waste for aboriginals in Hornepayne; Noah called every single member, and not 1 person showed up. I, in fact, was the only person who showed up at the legion. Then, in February there was a meeting for the aboriginals in Hornepayne, invitations were hand delivered and the attendance was very low! This was the very first meeting that nwmo engaged with the aboriginals of Hornepayne. I wasnt at this meeting, but I read the minutes, which are included on Facebook. From what I understand from reading the minutes, is that nwmo recognized that they failed to consult with First Nations in a proper manner, they will fix what they have done and for the next 2 years they will be focusing on consulting with the aboriginal people of Hornepayne, and at the end of the 2 year period there will be a referendum (which the members in attendance at the meeting agreed upon). They also had an air study that was planned, but cancelled since they didnt consultation with the First Nations! I find it really unfair that chief and council and employees of hfn are being targeting as the bad guys when they organize events and meetings, but people dont attend, then write all over Facebook we dont know whats going on with the nuclear waste. Is it just easier to sit behind your computer on Facebook, and complain that nobody knows what going on, and bash the leadership for not informing you? Attend the events and the meetings; get educated on the issues we are facing, cause Hornepayne First Nation is doing their best to protect the land and resources!
