As area students flock back to school this week, Democrats in Lansing want to boost the states minimum per-pupil funding. In fact, from the current $50 per pupil to $83 per student..... though Representative Ray Franz of Onekama calls that too drastic, insisting that lawmakers have already significantly increased K-12 funding. And Franz says we need to keep in mind that the state is also paying down “significant” parts of the teacher retirement package....and prepaying their retirement health care costs – which “does a lot” for kids in the classroom.
