As evidenced by the recent string of rainy days, landscape contractors are reminded that the one thing they can’t count on in the spring is the weather. How do you prevent the unexpected from affecting the bottom line? Consider adding “skip days” to your schedule – a concept used by LandOpt Contractors that involves looking at the total number of work days per year (vs. days per week) and dividing them into seasonal windows and then using a skip day ratio of 3:1 (one skip day for every three days of work) during the busiest seasons when you have the most jobs scheduled per crew and a ratio of 4 or 5:1 which is more appropriate during slower times. Not only does this help keep customers satisfied, but it also provides a sense of control for your operations team. Tell us: Do you use skip days in your scheduling?
