As exotic car marques go, Pegaso has to be at the pinnacle. Only 87 or so ever got produced, and that included ones the factory had planned on racing or lost in the process. The engines were amazing, DOHC V8s, often with roots supercharging, five speed transaxles and deDion rear suspension. Trouble is, they were in Spain and few Spanish carrossiers existed aside from Serra. Meanwhile, the Italian shops were largely contracted out for their own home grown brands, and what was left were some mostly idle French prewar body makers who lacked much experience with modern all metal assembly processes. Italys Superleggera Touring finally did most of the Pegaso coupes, in a style which was not their very best work, but the French ones were kind of disasterous. This one, perhaps Chapron (?) is too large for its underpinnings and decidedly gawky looking. From the side it has so much rear overhang I cannot fit it onto the template I have made for all the worlds sports cars in side elevation. The legend of Pegaso might have been better served with some more attractive bodies.
