As expected, the Storms a Prediction Center has placed a moderate risk area of parts of western Kentucky from about the Land Between the Lakes westward where the threat of severe storms is particularly higher. However, this in no way diminishes the threat to the rest of the area including the Pennyrile Region. Western Kentucky is currently in a lull from the storms. This will not last more than a few hours. Models indicate that some scattered storms will be possible over much of the area through midday. Still cannot rule out a strong storm late this morning. Damaging winds and hail would be the primary concern. By this afternoon, wind. fields will increase significantly as the main line of storms approaches. Lets pray we dont get much sunshine today. Even with cloudy skies, the wind shear will provide for rotating updrafts. The bottom line is that damaging winds and some tornadoes will be possible. If a supercell can get going just ahead of the line or persist within the line, a more significant damaging wind and tornado threat can be expected. As far as timing the event...we are basically looking at about a 12 hour severe threat beginning this morning and ending just before midnight tonight. I will have further updates as the morning progresses. Going to try to get a little rest first as I hope you all have as well.
